Crossing the Plains to California, 1850
Many emigrants kept journals on their way to California. One of them became Fresno’s first judge when the county seat was in Millerton, then the first school superintendent. He gave the address at the dedication of the Fresno Courthouse in 1879. Piecing together his journals, making my way through his handwriting - old script and phrasing - has been a challenge worthy of my next book. So much to share!!!
